The Evolution Of Nigerian DJs

In the year 2007 the evolution of the Nigerian DJS kicked off with the release of The 'Definition' Album by legendary DJ Jimmy Jatt. This Album paved the way for the DJ career in Nigeria, this album opened the eyes of so many upcoming Djs, this evolution gave the DJ career a value in Nigeria. A standard has been set by the Legend, a standard that gave birth to brands like DJ xclusive, Dj Kentalky, Dj caise, Dj Spinall, Dj Kaywise, DJ Smooth, DJ Neptune and so many others.

The potency of this standard and foundation is questionable now, the vision is going towards the wrong direction and nobody is talking about it, we smile, enjoy the sounds and get blinded from the harm this is causing the music industry.

Nigerian Djs now release songs even more than some Artist, i sometimes ask myself if this Djs really understand the business and their vision in the music industry. What makes  Djs unique is their skills on the turn table, how they manage to queue in songs (transition) and what makes them a brand is their packaging and acceptance by fans and music lovers because of what they offer and represent.

The question now is why cant this new school Djs incorporate or infuse their unique turn table skills into their collaborations with most of this Artist, just like the way Dj Jimmy Jatt did on his 2007 release 'Stylee' featuring 2face Idibia (Tubaba) Modenine and Elajoe. All you hear on records is Djs chanting and screaming their names, an adopted style, they just don't want to deepen their creativity.

Lastly all Djs should learn to unite and speak with one voice, but they hatred they have for each other won't let them. Big shout to the legend who has been trying to unite all the Djs. This is my own perception and i expect some of the Djs to learn from this, i am only concerned about the growth of the music industry, because Djs play a key role.
