Nigerian Songstress 'Tonye' Signs A Record Deal With MMMG

Nigerian songstress and 'Criminal' crooner signs on to Tripple MG record company owned by Iyanya and Ubi Franklin.


The British- Nigerian singer and songwriter shot into limelight in 2010 after her accapella song titled ‘What About Us?’ was used at the Nigerian Youth Presidential debate in 2011.

In 2015, she released a marriage-themed single title ‘Ari Belema’ which got her a nomination in the ‘Most Promising Act’ category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

The budding singer released her first official single in 2013 titled ‘Were niyen’ which was received to critical acclaim.

On October 2, 2014, she released another song produced by Password titled ‘Criminal’ which did was another great sound. She cites Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Brandy and Aaliyah as her musical influences. In an interview granted to ThisDay Live on June 21, 2014, she said she was working on her debut studio album.

On her new record signing deal, “New music, new sound, new branding….the deal would last for up to 2 to 3 years, and would have the singer creatively working on something fresh. I think it is a good partnership,” Tonye’s manager Onyeka was quoted as saying.

This makes it the second signing in recent times after the Triple MG group grabbed a promising young singer that goes by the name Chibbz exactly about a month ago. She joins the likes of producer Selebobo and Tekno.
